New Life-Saver for HIV Patients: Transplants

HIV infection is no longer an automatic reason for denying organ transplantation to patients who are otherwise candidates for the surgery. Since 1989, more than 500 transplants have been performed in patients known to have HIV, according to the United Network for Organ Sharing, the Richmond, Va.-based organization that manages the country's transplant system.

Heita da, Mabhekaphansi here, I am HIV negative, the pos status of my friends is irrelevant to me, and I would date a pos person, or even fall in love. You are HIV negative. Would you befriend or date a pos person? Or fall in love?
I dislike the negative attitude that so many people have towards pos people. In Africa, we have a word, ubuntu, the human-ness, the intrinsic worth of a person; this belief is strong in my life.
Yes, I would befriend.
Yes, I would date.
I would avoid them like the plague!
I look beyond the exterior, I look at the human-ness of the whole person. I could fall in love with the right pos person.

More About MeI am 51 yrs. old. I have 3 grown sons and 9 grandkids. I have been poz since 1988, i was most likely infected in 87 but didn't get tested until 88. I thought i was fine, i was engaged and everything was going ok, then he disapears and i get a phone call from his mom telling me he is in jail and that he had just tested positive so i needed to get tested. Needless to say i didn't stay with him, found out he was prostituting. I walked away and got my life back in order and raised 3 boys on my own.I live in Fl. for 10 yrs. and then moved back home to In. in 96. I am getting ready to move back to Fl. as soon as i can, trying to save money up to do that. I didn't go on meds till 97 when i got sick and landed in the hospital with a cd4 count of 29 and vload in the thousands. Cd4 is 708 now and vload is undetectable. Now i only have to deal with COPD and normal health problems this bug gives us. I would love to meet new friends and maybe be even find someone to be with. I have been alone since 90 and it is no fun.It is also very hard trying to do everything on my own. I am on disability and am trying to find away to do something in helping get this bug undercontrol. I feel i have been saved so i can do something good in this fight. I just need the energy and outside help in getting things up and running. I would love to go into schools and talk to kids about safe sex and how to protect themselfs. Someone has to try to stop it and why not me. If one person can be safed from this
